Teacher of the Week

Mrs. Carolyn Baldwin

Interviewer: Erica Zins, gr. 7

Mrs. Carolyn Baldwin was born in Beverly, Massachusetts.  As a child, she always wanted to be a librarian when she grew up.  Her favorite thing to do when she was a kid was to read!

Schools she attended:

Danvers High School

Westfield State College (for her undergraduate degree; majoring in English and          Spanish)

Simmons College (for her Masters in Library Science.  Once she worked at a             library for the blind.)

Her two daughters, Emily and Sarah, and her son, Keith, all attended BCA.  When BCA decided to add a Spanish program for the middle school, she was excited to come to BCA and teach Spanish!  She taught Spanish for many years.  Then when BCA began the computer technology classes, she began to teach those, too.  Two years ago she decided to pick one or the other—and computers won.

Most of what Mrs. Baldwin has learned about computers she has learned on her own.  She is now BCA’s technology coordinator!  After three years of working with the curriculum from the School Technology Program out of University of Richmond and Boston University, she offered to write the curriculum for BCA herself.  She did a fantastic job!  Now all the projects that students do are integrated into the curriculum and connect directly with the other studies in their classrooms.

Thanks to Mrs. Baldwin, BCA students are learning how to be creative with KidPix, how to create PowerPoint presentations, how to set up tables and graphs on Excel, how to make web pages and newsletters, and much, much more!

This year Mrs. Baldwin is teaching some Spanish to the high school students who are taking Spanish 1.  She has visited Honduras three times, twice on mission trips and once with Mrs. Wright when they went to interview Mr. Steltz.  She hopes to go back again.  In fact, she loves to travel, and would like to go to Africa, Spain, England and the Grand Canyon.

Other things Mrs. Baldwin would like to do before she dies:

            · Work at the Apple Store and wear a shirt that says, GENIUS!

            · Be a grandmother

Oh, yes, Mrs. Baldwin’s favorite color is blue.  She also loves to sew!
