Mission Statement The
Upper School of Barrington Christian Academy combines a challenging,
faith-based liberal arts curriculum with clear moral direction and leadership
training to fulfill the goal of Philippians 2:5. Dedicated to the development
of the minds, bodies, and souls of all BCA students, the Academy not only
presents a Christian worldview, but also provides guidance and opportunity in
understanding and experiencing a life well-lived through Christ. BCA's
rigorous curriculum is founded firmly on biblical truth and on the liberal
arts traditions that value learning, the refinement of thought and the
enhancement of character to liberate and charge the individual with a global
responsibility for and a local commitment to Christian service. BCA is committed to developing in students
an awareness of their Christian capacity as well as the practical skills and
core knowledge on which further learning must be based to establish a global
perspective and a victorious position in it. ▪

BCA’s High School Vision
The high school program at Barrington Christian Academy
will build on the foundation of BCA’s successful K-8 mission, vision and core
values. Recognizing the developing
independence of the high school student, BCA will endeavor to expand the academic,
social, physical and spiritual challenges for high school students in
developmentally appropriate ways. We
believe this includes an increasing level of participation on the part of the
student in determining interests and setting academic goals that prepare them
for higher education. In an
academically rigorous environment, we will encourage students to become
lifelong learners who are able to think critically and communicate
effectively in writing and in speech.
With a curriculum that is biblically integrated, we will help them
develop a Christian worldview and build both moral integrity and the courage
to impact the culture for Christ.
Content areas will be integrated to help students understand the unity
of God's truth in all knowledge to further demonstrate the viability of a
Christ-centered worldview. In
addition, through practical, participatory and relevant educational
experiences that respond to the learning styles of today’s students, we hope
to fuel these young adults’ passion and love for life, for work, for service
and for God. The Faculty Selected on the basis of their academic credentials, their
passion for teaching teens, their love for Christ, and their commitment to
the goals of BCA’s unique high school program, the faculty of BCA’s high
school will also serve as mentors for the students they teach. They will be effective communicators
themselves, so that they will be able to teach and model effective
communication for their students.
They will have demonstrated success in both their teaching and in
their relating with teens. Each
advisor will work with approximately ten students to be mentors, to guide
their academic planning and their practical experiences including possible
internships and community service.
BCA will attract and retain Christian faculty members by offering
appealing challenges, compensation and benefits. The Students Students who enroll in BCA’s high school will need to be
willing to work hard, desire to be part of the unique Christian community
that exists at the school, and take an active part in the learning
process. They will need to commit
themselves to living according to the school’s moral standard of excellence
based on biblical principles. It is
our desire that the student body represent the diversity of God’s people:
ethnically, denominationally, and socio-economically. We seek to help students become credible
Christian thinkers, leaders and communicators who will bring a Christian
worldview to their places in the greater community. Our charter class of students will have the unique responsibility
of serving as the school’s leaders for four years. This aspect makes the selection of our charter class a very
significant part of the first year of the high school existence. This class will be helping build our
school—its traditions, its culture, its reputation. The Families The families of students enrolled in BCA’s high school
will be expected to partner with the school in helping the student develop
academically, spiritually, socially.
They will need to support the school’s Statement of Faith and
Philosophy of Education. Their
commitment to the goals and the core values of the school will be evidenced
through cooperation with the administration and faculty, by attendance at
school meetings and functions, and by supporting the school financially. The Community Working with the community will be an integral part of
BCA’s high school program. Expanding
the model of BCA’s successful Field Placement Program for eighth graders, the
high school will connect students with professionals in the work place who
can help students apply their growing knowledge to real-life
experiences. What they learn in their
internships will help them determine their academic goals and interests as
well as their college preferences. In addition, BCA’s secondary program will
emphasize service to the community and showing the compassion of Christ to a
hurting world. It is a goal to help
build in each student a sense of global citizenship and mission outreach. Technology Understanding the importance of technology in today’s
learning and work environments, the high school will thoroughly integrate the
use of technology into its academic program.
All students will be expected to have use of a laptop daily. Students will be guided in the effective and ethical use of the
many resources available to them through technology and through the Internet. Program Distinctives The high school program that BCA is developing will
include among its distinctives a strong commitment to the development of
written communication skills across the curriculum, a biblically integrated
program that helps students develop a Christian worldview and a practical,
participatory and experiential component that helps students understand the
value of their education. Technology
will be considered an essential tool in the learning process. The curricular and co-curricular offerings
will be built on a foundation of academic rigor and individual student
interests. BCA high school students will be involved in the process
of planning field trips, service options, mission projects and other
opportunities to demonstrate authentic faith in action. They will help develop the community, in
which they will learn and work for their four high school years, providing
social aspects and special events that are appropriate for Christian young
people. |
