Teacher of the Week:  Mrs. Beth Zins

Elementary Principal and Admissions Coordinator

I, along with many at BCA, think of Beth Zins as a personable, encouraging, approachable, calm, sparkly, old friend.  Beth lives in Pawtucket, RI, close to where she grew up and where her parents still reside.  She attended public school along with her older brother and younger sister; yes, she is the “middle child”.  Beth then entered Gordon College where she completed a BS in Elementary Education and continued her studies at RI College, where she received a Masters Degree in Education with a language arts concentration.

When asked what her biggest fear was she stated, “something happening to my sons.” Beth is the proud mother of three boys (all who attended BCA).  Stephen, the oldest, graduated in April 2006 from the University of Michigan and is working in Boston.  Dan is attending the University of Hawaii (lucky) and Ryan, the youngest, is a junior at LaSalle.

With the exception of substitute teaching in the Pawtucket school system and taking “8 years off” when her sons were born, Beth has been at BCA.  She started teaching 2nd grade then 3rd, 4th, 5th before moving onto middle school teaching English and Bible.  She is now our esteemed lower school Principal and Admissions Coordinator.  Beth has experienced wonderful times here.  She most enjoys interacting and laughing with the students.  One example was a reading sleepover in Cedar Hall!

In her “spare time,” Beth enjoys reading, watching “chick-flicks” and sports.  Yes sports, her favorites are football and soccer.  Her favorite book, other than the Bible, is Number the Stars.  A few of her other favorites are: the Fiddler on the Roof movie, the colors bright red and yellow, and as for food, “anything anyone else will cook”.

As we all know, Beth has a generous heart.  When asked what she would do if she won the BIG Power ball, her first thoughts were of BCA; purchasing land or a building for the High School.  She then thought of herself.  Beth would go to see her son in Hawaii and purchase a dependable car.

Mrs. Zins thinks of herself as friendly, sincere and inquisitive.  But when I think of her, she brings a bright smile to my face and warmth in my heart.  “That she walked the talk” is perhaps the most powerful and most remembered quality about our beloved Mrs. Zins.
