Andy Edgren began his study of the Chinese language and culture as a thirteen-year-old boy, when his parents took jobs at Shanxi University in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, in the People’s Republic of China. Five years later, he returned to Taiyuan again and taught English, studied Mandarin, and grew in his understanding of the Chinese culture for the next three years. Later graduating from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Business Administration, he served in various leadership roles in various independent schools, including as athletic director at Hammond School in Columbia, South Carolina, and, most recently, as international program director at Northland Christian School in Houston, Texas. During the past two decades, he has assisted in placing hundreds of Chinese students in various Christian schools around the country. He is passionate about exercising Christian hospitality by crafting culturally-relevant ways to welcome and nurture international students in an American school environment.
