B.S. Physical Education, Springfield College
M. Ed. in Health Education, Rhode Island College
Math Education, Northeastern University
Sandy was born and raised in Central New York State and attended Edmeston Central School, where four previous generations of her family had attended. It was the passion for teaching of her physical education and math teachers that lead her to education. In athletics, she was elected to all-conference teams in soccer, basketball and softball.
Sandy went on to attend and graduate, in 1986, from Springfield College in Massachusetts with a B.A. in Physical Education. After teaching and coaching in Central New York for several years, she was drawn by God to Barrington Christian Academy, in 1989, to teach physical education, health and math. Sandy received her M.A. in Health Education from Rhode Island College in 1997. After having her children, she completed additional coursework including courses at Northeastern University and was ACSI certified to teach mathematics.
During her tenure at BCA, Sandy has coached many teams including soccer, basketball and softball. She has been an athletic director and she also initiated and coached a F.I.R.S.T. Lego Team, a STEM centered activity, for several years. She has been a member of professional physical education and math associations. The common thread Sandy sees woven between her teaching and coaching is her desire to see her students and her athletes take on new challenges and achieve improvement and mastery toward the goal, accomplishing tasks greater than themselves. Sandy also enjoys the large and the small moments at BCA that are centered on God’s word becoming alive and active in her own life and in the lives of her students.
Sandy’s recreation includes continued coaching and participation in soccer and coaching. Her hobbies include puzzles, carpentry projects and outdoor activities. She lives in East Providence with her daughters Jacqueline and Jillian.
